15 Mar 2003 : Ensemble provides masterly touch to concert
The Trios performance of the Opus 87 Piano Trio by Brahms was distinguished by bold shapes, strong lines and great firmness of rhythm and line. The finale had great impetus, bringing the work to a most satisfying conclusion.
The Ravel Piano Trio in A minor is a masterly work; an amazing contrast between gentle, poetic intimacy and an almost orchestral splendour, and these players brought some real involvement to their performance. There was great care shown to the smaller moments, and real sweep and passion given to the larger ones. All in all, a very fine concert indeed.
