NZTrio at the Museum - Concert 3

Fresh from their tour of China, NZTrio presents their 3rd Museum concert of 2010 - 8pm, Saturday August 28, Auckland Museum.

Continuing to celebrate Schumann's 200th anniversary, the concert begins with two divine duos from the German master, then takes a major turn into a crossover world of film and music with New Zealander David Downes' Kingdom - premiered by the trio earlier this year to a fascinated audience at the International Festival of the Arts in Wellington. This is your chance to experience the multimedia work's quirky black humour and dynamic energy. The trio will then launch into the luscious Russian romanticism of Tchaikovsky's mighty Piano Trio.

Auckland University Series Concert

NZTrio's Dynamic Extremes concert was a sell-out hit in Auckland earlier this year, and now the Trio turns up the heat. This concert is fiery and fun in equal parts, starting with two short and spicy works from Kiwi composers Jack Body and Ross Harris. They follow with lashings of French passion (Chausson) and Spanish exoticism (Turina), before serving up the wildly entertaining climax that is Cafe Music by American composer Paul Schoenfield.

Jack Body - Fire in the Belly (NZTrio Commission and Premiere)
Ross Harris - Senryu (NZTrio Commission)
Chausson - Trio in G Minor Opus 3
Joaquin Turina - Trio No 1 Opus 35
Paul Schoenfield - Cafe Music
