2011 NZTrio Auckland Museum Series

01 March 2011

Hear NZTrio perform in five concerts 2011 Auckland Museum Series. Following on from our celebration of Schumann in 2010, this year we will be weaving works of Johannes Brahms through our 4 concerts in the museum's Auditorium.

In addition, we are presenting a special NZ Music Month concert in May – a celebration of our favourite NZ compositions, to be performed in the museum's Maori Court.

Alongside the magnificent works of Johannes Brahms, each concert will also feature a jazz-inspired snippet from the pen of young New York composer, Kenji Bunch. True to NZTrio tradition, fresh New Zealand compositions will sit at the heart of each programme – this year’s trios from composers to watch (and listen to) Chris Gendall, Clare Cowan and Chris Adams. In addition, masterful trios by Haydn, Saint Saens and Schubert will complete the first 3 programmes.

The final concert of the series will be NZTrio+2: a rare opportunity to hear a concert of three glorious piano quintets. The Auckland Philharmonia’s Assistant Concertmaster Miranda Adams and Principal Viola Robert Ashworth will join NZTrio for quintets by Shostakovich, our very own John Psathas and the mighty Brahms, appropriately rounding off our Brahms season.
